Wellbeing Wednesday 27.01.2021

Hi GDT ðŸ™‚

Welcome to 2021 and our first Wellbeing Wednesday session for the year!

We were very lucky to have long time FMN supporter Trent Harvison (who most of you will have met at some point) for an open dialogue about how we support those who are bereaved/impacted by suicide. Trent is the National StandBy Partnership Coordinator, and also has a couple of side-projects. We lovingly refer to him as the Mayor of Eumundi and are extremely grateful for his time and attention to this matter.

StandBy – Support After Suicide was established in 2002 to meet the need for a coordinated community response to suicide. StandBy is now recognised as Australia’s leading suicide postvention program dedicated to assisting people and communities bereaved or impacted by suicide.

Here are some resources from StandBy which may be useful when working with children and young people bereaved/impacted by suicide. A book just for me is for children under 12 and includes colouring in and ways to help children identify their feelings. My grief journal has been created for teenagers. There are accompanying notes for both.

There are many more resources available at the StandBy website.

Below is a resource created by the Queensland Government translated into Nepali titled: Supporting a person in your community who is suicidal. Click on the image to read the document.
